This course will explore the history of human-environmental interaction on the African continent. The major focus will be on methodological and theoretical concepts used in understanding African Environmental History, politics of wildlife conservation in the 19th, 20th and 21st century, impact of European intrusion on African environment, demographic transitions and their impact on the environment, debates on Diseases, Urbanisation, Drought and Famine, Gender, Production and Environment in Africa from a historical perspective. This knowledge is important in that it would help students to scrutinize Neo-Colonial Policies and their impact on the African Environment.
