This course will explore the history of human-environmental interaction on the African continent. The major focus will be on methodological and theoretical concepts used in understanding African Environmental History, politics of wildlife conservation in the 19^th, 20^th and 21^st century, impact of European intrusion on African environment, demographic transitions and their impact on the environment, debates on Diseases, Urbanisation, Drought and Famine, Gender, Production and Environment in Africa from a historical perspective. This knowledge is important in that it would help students to scrutinize Neo-Colonial Policies and their impact on the African Environment.
